ADC Crisis Deepens: 36 State Chairmen Drag Party NWC To Court.

Published

A fresh crisis has rocked the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as state chairmen from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory have taken the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to court over alleged breaches of its constitution.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The aggrieved officials are challenging decisions by the NWC led by David Mark, particularly the formation of committees to oversee state primary elections slated for April.

According to the State Working Committees, the NWC overstepped its authority by setting up these committees, insisting that the responsibility for organising state congresses and primaries lies solely with state executive bodies under the party’s constitution.

In a suit filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja, the plaintiffs are seeking an order to halt the planned primaries, along with an injunction to stop the exercise until the court resolves the matter.

They are also asking the court to determine whether the interim or caretaker committee set up by the NWC has the legal backing to conduct state primaries, questioning the legitimacy of appointing congress committees outside constitutional provisions.

Another major issue in the case is the tenure of the current state executives. The plaintiffs maintain that their four-year mandate remains valid until properly concluded through duly conducted congresses and a national convention.

The suit, filed by Don Norma Obinna and six others on behalf of the chairmen, lists the ADC, its NWC chairman David Mark, the Independent National Electoral Commission, and other parties as defendants.

Among their demands, the plaintiffs want the court to restrain the defendants from interfering with the duties and tenure of state executives, and to declare the appointment of congress committee members by the caretaker NWC as unconstitutional, null, and void.

The Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded to claims by Governor Ademola Adeleke that local government officials under the party diverted about ₦300 billion meant for workers’ salaries.

Adeleke had made the allegation during a stakeholders’ meeting, accusing APC-controlled council officials of hijacking funds and forcing the state government to shoulder salary payments for local government workers, teachers, health staff, and pensioners for over a year.

He insisted he would not abandon workers, blaming the situation for delays in executing some state projects.

But in a statement, APC’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, dismissed the claims, accusing the governor of misleading the public and shifting blame.

The party alleged that Adeleke was responsible for the salary issues, claiming he refused to release electronic payment vouchers and other financial documents needed for processing payments.

APC also said pension-related records, leave bonuses, cooperative deductions, and other financial data had not been made available despite repeated appeals, insisting that funds were properly accounted for and available for use if approved.

The party urged pensioners and workers to seek clarification, insisting the situation could be resolved if the governor allowed due process to take place.
