According to Nivo News, officials from the Kano State Ministry of Land and Physical Planning carried out the operation on Monday at Sharada Ja’en in Gwale Local Government Area. The exercise was personally supervised by the Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning, Abduljabbar Muhammad Umar.
Authorities explained that the action followed reports that some individuals had erected commercial buildings on land belonging to the Federal Housing Authority without approval. The government maintained that the affected land was originally designated for recreational and leisure purposes and not for commercial activities.
Speaking after the demolition, Umar stated that any future development on the site must strictly comply with regulations set by the Kano State Urban Planning and Development Authority. He added that the state government has now assumed oversight of the land to ensure its proper use and prevent further violations of planning guidelines.
The commissioner explained that the demolished structures were built without authorization on government-owned land and public spaces, noting that such activities hinder effective urban planning and infrastructure development. He warned that the government would continue to monitor different areas of the city and take decisive action against individuals who violate land-use regulations.
The demolition exercise forms part of the broader urban renewal and land management programme of the administration of Abba Kabir Yusuf. The initiative aims to protect public land, improve the city’s physical outlook, and ensure that all developments conform to approved zoning and planning standards. The ministry also indicated that similar operations would be carried out in other parts of the metropolis to curb illegal construction and safeguard government property.
