Peter Obi Picks Up African Democratic Congress Membership Card In Anambra State.

Published

Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (Nigeria) and former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has officially collected his membership card of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in his home state.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The registration was carried out on March 6, 2026, at Obi’s ward in Agulu, Anambra State.

The development followed the launch of the party’s membership mobilisation, registration, and revalidation exercise in the state.

The exercise coincided with the inauguration of the Anambra State ADC committee, which took place at the Hollywood Event Center, Awka.

Obi took part in the grassroots registration process and was issued his membership card shortly after the state-level launch.

The former governor had earlier defected to the ADC on December 31, 2025, during a political gathering held in Enugu as part of a wider coalition effort among opposition leaders.

His move to the party is widely viewed as part of ongoing attempts by opposition figures to build a united political platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.

ADC leaders in Anambra State have since reported a surge in membership following Obi’s entry into the party.

According to party officials, the influx includes former supporters of the Labour Party as well as some lawmakers who have aligned with the emerging opposition coalition.

They credited much of the growing membership to Obi’s political influence and popularity within the region.

Obi has repeatedly stated that his decision to join the ADC was driven by patriotism and the need to form a broad national coalition to tackle Nigeria’s pressing challenges.

He has pointed to poverty, insecurity, and weakening democratic institutions as key issues requiring collective political action.

The former governor has also reiterated his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, despite what he described as the structural advantages currently enjoyed by the ruling party.

Meanwhile, the ADC has continued its mobilisation campaigns across several states as it seeks to position itself as a major opposition platform ahead of the next general elections.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.

Meanwhile, comedians Ayobami Ajewole, popularly known as Woli Agba, and Olamide Oladimeji, also known as Dele Omo Woli, have threatened legal action against individuals allegedly linking them to Toluwanisings’ death.

Woli Agba disclosed this in a public notice shared on his Instagram page on Sunday.

In the notice issued by their solicitors, Gemgold, the comedians warned members of the public against publishing or circulating allegations they described as false and defamatory against them.
