The incident has further highlighted the growing internal crisis within the party in the state, where two rival blocs currently exist—one supporting Wike and the other backing the state governor, Seyi Makinde.

Reports indicate that the Wike-backed faction had planned to hold its local government congresses across the state on Saturday.

However, the exercise was disrupted when suspected political thugs reportedly invaded some of the venues and attacked party members while the congresses were in progress.

Sources within the party said the attackers struck multiple locations, leaving several participants injured and causing damage to vehicles owned by members.

At least 10 individuals were reportedly assaulted during the violence, while a number of vehicles were vandalised.

The chairman of the Wike-aligned faction in the state, Abdulrahman Akinoso, confirmed the incident during a telephone interview on Saturday afternoon.

Akinoso disclosed that the attacks occurred in several local government areas, including Ibadan North, Ogbomoso South, Ibarapa Central, and Akinyele.

According to him, the violence disrupted the congresses in those areas and left several party members injured.

“Our local government congresses were attacked across Oyo State—Ibadan North, Ogbomoso South, Igboora in Ibarapa Central, and Akinyele,” he said.

He also revealed that vehicles belonging to party members were damaged during the incident in Ibadan North.

“Three vehicles were vandalised in Ibadan North at Gbolarumi House, Are Avenue, Bodija. About 10 people were attacked across the state,” Akinoso added.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
