Middle East Conflict Pushes Global Oil Prices To New Heights.
Global crude oil prices surged to a two-year high, surpassing $90 per barrel on Saturday, amid escalating tensions in the Middle East and fears of supply disruptions across the region.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Data from international oil markets showed Brent crude trading at around $93 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) hovered near $91 per barrel on Saturday morning. This represents a roughly nine per cent increase in Brent crude, marking its highest level since autumn 2023, according to the BBC.
Energy analysts attribute the spike to growing concerns that ongoing conflicts in the Gulf region could severely disrupt oil and gas production, a critical source of global energy supply. Saad al-Kaabi, Qatar’s energy minister, warned that the crisis could force major Middle Eastern oil exporters to halt production, potentially causing dramatic consequences for the global economy.
“The situation could bring down the economies of the world if energy exports from the Middle East are significantly disrupted,” al-Kaabi said, adding that crude prices could soar further if the conflict intensifies. Industry forecasts suggest prices could reach as high as $150 per barrel if production across key oil-producing nations is halted.
The surge comes after a major escalation in the Gulf region on February 28, 2026, when coordinated attacks reportedly carried out by the United States and Israel struck Iran, killing several Iranian leaders, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In retaliation, Iran launched missile and drone strikes across the Middle East, raising fears of a wider regional conflict and further destabilizing one of the world’s most critical oil-producing areas.
Adding to global market concerns, Iran reportedly claimed control of the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route for a significant portion of the world’s oil supply. Following this, several energy facilities in the region temporarily shut down, including Saudi Arabia’s Ras Tanura refinery—one of the Middle East’s largest—and operations linked to QatarEnergy.
The conflict has already impacted fuel prices in Nigeria. The Dangote Refinery adjusted petrol loading costs, triggering a nationwide increase in fuel prices and placing additional pressure on the cost of living for many Nigerians.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.
The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.
Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.
He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.
“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
