Alleged ₦5 Million Bribe-For-Promotion Scandal Rocks Police Hierarchy.

Fresh allegations of corruption have surfaced within the Nigerian Police Force, with claims that several senior officers allegedly paid around ₦5 million each to secure promotion to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) under former Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to Sahara Reporters, the claims are based on documents obtained from the Force Headquarters in Abuja. An internal police wireless message dated February 23, 2026, reportedly confirmed the contentious promotions.

The message, referenced SH.4700/FS/FHQ/ABJ/T.3/40, stated that the promotions were approved following communication from the Police Service Commission (PSC):

“Promotion Senior Officers x CSP to ACP x Ref Polscom Letnos. PSC/Prom/1/1096/II dated 31/07/2025 and PSC/Prom/1/1096/II dated 05/08/2025 x Ingenpol has graciously approved the release of promotion of the under-listed CSPs to substantive rank of ACP x with effect from the date indicated against their names.”

The directive, circulated to police departments and commands nationwide, instructed authorities to acknowledge the promotions and convey the IGP’s congratulations to the affected officers. Eight officers were listed as beneficiaries, including Ibrahim Tijani Umaira, Mohammed Amini, Usman Abdul Dimka, Iwok Ndifere, Mohammed I. Musa, Jimoh Shittu, Muhammad S. Ibrahim, and Promise Wosu. Promotions reportedly took effect between July 28 and August 5, 2025.

However, insiders claim the promotions were influenced by payments rather than merit. A senior police officer alleged that each officer paid about ₦5 million to officials within the PSC to secure the ACP rank.

“These are new special promotions secretly done under Egbetokun. There are allegations that these men paid ₦5 million to get ACP rank while their course mates are left unpromoted,” the source said.

The revelations have reportedly caused dissatisfaction within the force, with some qualified officers feeling overlooked while others jumped ranks unexpectedly.

“This has created serious tension within the force because many officers who are qualified were ignored while others suddenly jumped ranks,” another insider noted.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.

In the notice issued by their solicitors, Gemgold, the comedians warned members of the public against publishing or circulating allegations they described as false and defamatory against them.
