INEC: APC Got 121 Votes — Not 1,219 — In Kwali Polling Unit.

Published

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has refuted claims that the Kuroko Health Centre Polling Unit in Yangoji Ward, Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), recorded 1,219 votes for a political party despite having only 345 registered voters and 213 accredited voters in Saturday’s Area Council election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The commission described the allegation as false and misleading.

In a statement signed by the FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner, Aminu K. Idris, INEC said its findings showed the discrepancy resulted from a clerical error by the Presiding Officer.

According to the commission, 122 votes were first entered for the APC after the ballots were sorted and counted.

The statement explained, “While reconciling the figures, she observed an overcount of one vote. The ballots were recounted openly, and it was discovered that the APC actually scored 121 votes, not 122.

“She then struck out the ‘2’ and replaced it with ‘1’ to reflect 121. The figure written in words was also corrected accordingly.”

INEC clarified that the authentic result uploaded from the polling unit indicated 121 votes for the party, not 1,219 as circulated on social media.

“The official result recorded and uploaded from the polling unit clearly shows that the party scored 121 votes, not 1,219 as alleged online. This is verifiable on the INEC IReV portal.

“The accurate figure was subsequently entered into the EC8B collation form at the Ward level. Therefore, the number used during collation at both the Ward and Area Council levels was 121, in line with what was recorded at the polling unit,” the statement added.

The commission also maintained that its result management framework makes the type of manipulation alleged impossible.
