Tinubu Orders Crackdown On Abia Killers And Sit-at-Home Promoters

President Bola Tinubu has directed security forces to pursue those responsible for the killing of five soldiers in Aba, Abia State, and individuals advocating for sit-at-home orders in the South-East. In a firm statement issued on Saturday night, Tinubu condemned the murder of the soldiers, reportedly by members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and declared that such actions would not be tolerated……CONTINUE READING....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Strong Condemnation of the Killings

Reacting to the tragic incident that occurred on Thursday, May 30, Tinubu expressed his dismay and emphasized the Federal Government’s zero-tolerance stance on attacks against state agents. He highlighted that the soldiers were on peacekeeping duty when they were ambushed and killed, a situation reminiscent of a similar attack in Okuama, Delta State, two months prior.

“The slain soldiers were on peacekeeping duty in Aba, Abia State on Thursday when they were murdered, just two months after a similar tragic incident happened in Okuama in Delta state,” Tinubu stated.

Federal Government’s Response

Tinubu underscored the Federal Government’s commitment to decisively counter such violent actions, stressing that any assault on state agents is unacceptable. He assured that the government would take stringent measures against those perpetuating violence and attacking military personnel.

“The federal government will come down heavily against those who have made it a habit to attack the officers and men of our armed forces needlessly,” he said.

Call for Security Reinforcement

The President also called for heightened efforts from security agencies to track down not only the perpetrators of the Aba attack but also those instigating sit-at-home orders, which he labeled as treasonous.

“I urge security agencies not only to fish out the masterminds and perpetrators of the Aba attack but also those calling on people to stay at home. Their action is nothing but a treasonable offence,” Tinubu asserted.

Assurance to Security Forces

While extending condolences to the families of the deceased soldiers, Tinubu urged their colleagues not to be discouraged by the incident. He reaffirmed the government’s resolve to maintain law and order and protect its citizens from non-state actors.

“Our soldiers and the police have the onerous duty to protect all of us from aggressors and non-state actors… The fact that the security forces exercise necessary restraints should not be mistaken for weakness,” Tinubu remarked.

Building a Peaceful Society

The President reiterated the government’s commitment to creating a peaceful and harmonious society but warned that the government would act decisively against any threats to its personnel or the peace of the nation.

“We are working to build a peaceful and harmonious society, but nobody should be under any illusion that the government will not act appropriately when the lives of our officers and men are wantonly taken,” Tinubu emphasized.

Conclusion

In his address, Tinubu called for unity and cooperation in ensuring the safety and security of all Nigerians. He affirmed that the government would continue to support and protect its security personnel while taking necessary actions against those who challenge the authority and peace of the state.

Human rights lawyer Frank Tietie has criticized the nomination and subsequent confirmation of Professor Abayomi Fasina, the former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, as a non-career ambassador designate.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

  • Prior to his confirmation, a coalition of civil society organizations protested at the National Assembly on July 7, 2026, opposing Fasina’s nomination due to pending court cases involving allegations of sexual harassment, human rights violations, and victimization.

  • Despite these protests, the Nigerian Senate officially confirmed Fasina’s appointment as a non-career ambassador on Thursday.

Frank Tietie’s Position

  • During an interview on ARISE Television, Tietie argued that nominating an individual with such “baggage” was a mistake, emphasizing that ambassadors represent Nigeria in the same capacity as the President.

  • Tietie stated that the government should have sent the “right signals” by avoiding such controversial appointments, especially given the current state of governance.

  • He argued that even in the absence of a final court judgment, the allegations themselves have “tainted” Fasina’s reputation, and the Senate should have delayed the confirmation until the legal matters were resolved.

  • Tietie also suggested that the National Assembly’s decision overlooks significant social changes regarding how such allegations are now viewed by society.
