A member of Iran’s Assembly of Experts, Hossein Mozafari, announced that the body will convene within 24 hours to begin selecting the country’s next supreme leader following the death of Ali Khamenei.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Mozafari, one of the 88 members of the clerical assembly, made the disclosure on Saturday, as reported by Iranian media. He confirmed that the Assembly of Experts would soon meet to deliberate on leadership succession.

“With divine assistance, this session will occur within the next twenty-four hours,” Mozafari told the Fars News Agency.

The announcement comes roughly a week after Khamenei was killed during a joint military strike by the United States and Israel.

Mozafari urged Iranians to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information about the succession process. He advised citizens to “refrain from any speculation and the spreading of rumours regarding this matter” until the assembly officially convenes.

Meanwhile, the United States condemned recent Iranian drone strikes near the border of Azerbaijan, describing them as an escalation of aggression in the ongoing Middle East conflict.

The US Department of State said the attacks targeted infrastructure in Azerbaijan’s exclave of Nakhchivan, hitting an airport and a school and injuring civilians.

“These strikes are a flagrant violation of Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and a needless escalation of Iran’s aggression,” said State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott. He added that attacks on American allies in the region “are unacceptable and will be met with resolute US support for those partners.”

In a related development, explosions were reported late Saturday in Baghdad and Erbil, according to AFP journalists.

The cause of the blasts in Baghdad remains unclear, though a witness near the heavily fortified Green Zone, which houses the US embassy, reported air defence systems being activated. Several drones have reportedly been intercepted near Baghdad airport since the conflict escalated.

In Erbil, an AFP journalist said a drone was heard followed by at least three loud explosions. The city, which hosts a major US consulate complex, has repeatedly intercepted drones since the outbreak of the Middle East conflict.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.

Meanwhile, comedians Ayobami Ajewole, popularly known as Woli Agba, and Olamide Oladimeji, also known as Dele Omo Woli, have threatened legal action against individuals allegedly linking them to Toluwanisings’ death.

Woli Agba disclosed this in a public notice shared on his Instagram page on Sunday.

In the notice issued by their solicitors, Gemgold, the comedians warned members of the public against publishing or circulating allegations they described as false and defamatory against them.

The legal notice maintained that the allegations were baseless and intended to damage the reputations of the two entertainers.
