INEC is set to hold polls in the six FCT area councils, as well as bye-elections in the Ahoada East II and Khana II constituencies of Rivers State, and the Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies in Kano State on Saturday, February 21, 2026.
In a statement on Friday via his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu encouraged all eligible voters to participate without fear, stressing that democracy flourishes in an environment of calm, tolerance, and mutual respect.
He called on political parties, candidates, and their supporters to avoid violence, inflammatory rhetoric, and actions that could compromise the credibility of the electoral process.
The President also warned against any form of intimidation, high-handedness, or activities that could disenfranchise voters or undermine public trust, reminding that security personnel are deployed to safeguard lives, property, and the integrity of the vote.
Furthermore, Tinubu urged INEC to take all necessary steps to enhance voters’ confidence by ensuring timely accreditation, smooth voting, accurate collation, and prompt transmission of results, in accordance with the 2026 Electoral Act.
“Fellow Nigerians, I assure you that the Federal Government under my administration will continue to support institutions responsible for delivering free, fair, and credible elections. To all residents of the FCT, Kano, and Rivers, I commend your civic consciousness. I am confident that these elections will reflect the will of the people and further strengthen our democratic journey as a nation,” the President stated.
