PDP Factions Clash Ahead Of National Secretariat Reopening.

Published

Tensions have escalated within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the Nyesom Wike-backed caretaker committee plans to reopen the party’s national secretariat at Wadata Plaza, Abuja, on Monday, reportedly with police support.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The move has heightened fears of a possible clash between rival factions amid ongoing legal disputes over the party’s leadership.

Following a closed-door meeting at INEC headquarters on Thursday, the National Secretary of the Wike-aligned faction, Samuel Anyanwu, announced that the group would take control of the secretariat on Monday.

The crisis stems from a long-running power struggle between the Tanimu Turaki-led faction—supported by some PDP governors, including Seyi Makinde (Oyo State) and Bala Mohammed (Bauchi State)—and the 13-member caretaker committee aligned with Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike. Turaki’s group claims legitimacy based on the PDP national convention held in Ibadan on November 15, 2025, which was reportedly nullified by a Federal High Court judgment.

Previous attempts by both factions to access the Wadata Plaza secretariat led to clashes and police intervention.

The caretaker committee’s Publicity Secretary, Jogudo Mohammed, confirmed that police had been instructed to reopen the secretariat in line with the Ibadan court ruling. He explained that fumigation and general cleanup would begin Monday, after which preparations for the sale of nomination forms for elective positions in the March convention would commence on Tuesday.

Mohammed stressed that the court judgment remains binding despite pending appeals, warning that any attempt by the Turaki-led faction to disrupt activities could constitute contempt of court.

A senior member of the caretaker committee expressed confidence that security agencies would enforce the court order, noting that relevant authorities—including INEC, the Police, and the DSS—had been properly served with the judgment.

In response, the Turaki-led National Working Committee urged restraint, calling the Wike faction’s actions “self-help” and insisting that the matter remains before the courts. National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong warned that any violence or property damage resulting from the secretariat reopening would be the responsibility of the police.

Former PDP National Vice Chairman (South West), Eddy Olafeso, described the dispute as minor compared to the larger legal battle, emphasizing that the Court of Appeal would resolve all outstanding issues. He expressed confidence that justice would prevail, offering hope to committed party members despite the ongoing internal crisis.

ADC Ticket Battle: Kwankwaso, Amaechi, Others Blast Atiku Over Supremacy Claims.

Published

on

A heated political exchange has erupted within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential race, as camps backing former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s rivals push back against his claims of superior popularity, especially in the North.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Supporters of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso rejected Atiku’s assertion that he remains the dominant northern vote-getter, insisting that such claims do not reflect today’s political realities.

The Kwankwasiyya Movement, aligned with a potential Obi-Kwankwaso ticket, dismissed Atiku’s influence in the North as largely elite-driven, arguing that Kwankwaso enjoys more genuine grassroots support.

Former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi also reacted, faulting Atiku’s position and questioning the logic of relying solely on regional identity as a basis for presidential ambition.

Atiku, in a recent interview, had maintained that none of his northern rivals, including Kwankwaso, can match his electoral strength, while downplaying Kwankwaso’s influence beyond Kano State.

His remarks sparked criticism across political circles, with some opposition figures describing them as arrogant and dismissive of other contenders.

Kwankwaso’s camp, however, maintained that both Kwankwaso and Obi have more “organic” support bases compared to politically induced followership, warning that such comments could deepen divisions within the ADC coalition.

Amaechi also argued that the ADC presidential ticket should be determined through a competitive primary rather than consensus, insisting that all aspirants should be tested at the ballot.

The growing disagreement highlights rising tension within the opposition alliance ahead of the 2027 general elections, as key figures intensify positioning for the party’s presidential ticket.
