The Federal Government’s PoA system is designed to replace Nigeria’s reliance on informal or non-standard address tools, such as utility bills, with a credible framework that can be uniformly verified nationwide.

Oyo State has scheduled March 1, 2026, as the official rollout date, covering all ministries, departments, agencies (MDAs), and all 33 local government areas.

As part of preparations, the state government, in collaboration with the Oyo State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), conducted a statewide sensitisation programme on Friday in Ibadan, targeting MDAs and local government officials.

The programme focused on aligning institutions with the operational framework of the PoA initiative ahead of the March 1 launch. Participants were briefed on the initiative’s objectives, implementation procedures, and strategic importance for governance, security, and service delivery.

Secretary to the Government of Oyo State (SSG), Professor Musibau Babatunde Adetunji, described PoA as a cornerstone of effective governance and citizen identification.

“A reliable and verifiable address system is essential for planning, security architecture, social services, and economic development,” Adetunji said, emphasizing that the sensitisation programme highlights the state’s commitment to fully integrating PoA across MDAs and local governments.

He recalled that facilitators were trained in 2025 as part of preparatory efforts, with the current engagement aimed at ensuring uniform understanding and seamless implementation.

“The PoA system is already enhancing residency verification, reducing identification ambiguities, and promoting transparency in access to government services. Full implementation will strengthen data-driven decision-making and deepen trust between citizens and government,” the SSG added.

Deputy Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Abiodun Muhammed Fadeyi, noted that the initiative would significantly improve security by facilitating accurate identification within communities. He praised the state government for adopting a forward-looking administrative tool to address governance and security challenges.

Programme Coordinator Segun Obayando highlighted the broad benefits of PoA, including improved access to financial and government services, enhanced security coordination, and more accurate population and residency data for development planning.

Oyo State is the first in the country to approve and enact all enabling laws related to the Proof of Address initiative.

ADC Cracks Down: Oyegun, Osunbor, Others Suspended Over Alleged Anti-Party Moves.

A fresh leadership crisis has erupted within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Edo State, as a faction of the party announced the suspension of two former governors, two ex-senators and several other members over alleged misconduct.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The decision was announced on April 15, 2026, after a meeting of the faction’s State Executive Committee.

Among those suspended are former governors John Odigie-Oyegun and Osareimen Osunbor, as well as former senators Yisa Braimoh and Ehigie Uzamere.

Others affected include Nosa Ehima, former Oredo Local Government chairman; Sylvester Ewanehi, a former state commissioner; Tony Alile, the party’s newly elected Edo chairman; Jafaru Sumaila; Stella Alli; Igieogbe Asemota; and Christopher Ojeikere, the state publicity secretary.

Factional state chairman Kennedy Odion said the suspension followed allegations of insubordination, anti-party conduct and failure to comply with party directives.

He also accused the affected members of setting up parallel structures within the party and engaging in actions capable of causing division and confusion.

According to Odion, the State Executive Committee further found that some of the suspended members were involved in groups not recognised by the party’s constitution.

As part of the disciplinary action, all affected members have been barred from attending meetings, participating in party activities, making decisions on behalf of the ADC, or presenting themselves as party representatives.

The directive also instructed all party organs across Edo State to deny the suspended members recognition and access throughout the suspension period. Local government and ward executives were directed to ensure full compliance and report any breaches.

Odion said each affected member would receive a formal notice detailing the allegations and would be invited to appear before the State Disciplinary Committee to defend themselves, call witnesses and seek representation if necessary.

He added that the disciplinary process would follow the party’s constitutional procedures, while those suspended have the right to appeal within 14 days. Any appeal, he said, would be reviewed and decided within 21 days.

The faction said the suspension takes immediate effect and is binding on all party structures in the state.
