The Obidient Movement has declared that the alleged “criminality” recorded during the 2023 general election will not be allowed to recur in 2027, accusing the Senate of moves aimed at weakening free, fair and credible elections in Nigeria.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Yunusa Tanko, the movement described as ironic and hypocritical the stance of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which it said embraces electronic registration and digital tools for its internal party activities while opposing similar transparency measures in national elections.

The group called on Nigerians, civil society organisations and the international community to stand against what it termed a dangerous reversal of democratic gains in the country.

It further accused the APC of dominating the National Assembly and using recent legislative actions to threaten Nigeria’s democratic future, alleging that electoral reforms are being deliberately stalled to protect the interests of a political elite.

The movement urged citizens to remain vigilant and lawfully resist any attempt to manipulate future elections.

According to the statement, the demand reflects the collective will of Nigerians and called on citizens across the country to participate in protests aimed at achieving electoral transparency and democratic reforms.

“The ruling All Progressives Congress, which controls the National Assembly, has shown clear intentions to undermine free, fair and credible elections,” the movement said.

“It is both ironic and hypocritical for a party that uses electronic registration and digital processes internally to deny Nigerians the same level of transparency in national elections.

“We will not stand by while the future of our nation is sacrificed for the political benefit of a privileged few. We call on Nigerians, civil society groups and the international community to resist this dangerous slide backwards.

“The criminality witnessed during the 2023 elections will not be tolerated in 2027. Nigerians must be ready to rise, resist and reject any deliberate attempt at democratic sabotage, and lawfully reclaim their country.”

  • Edo State: Requested authorization and payment fees amounting to thousands of dollars per participant for an upcoming international engagement in Bahrain, directing funds into designated commercial bank accounts.

  • Nasarawa State: Sought backing to host a national stakeholders’ meeting in Lafia aimed at formally launching its nationwide executive structure.

  • Ondo State: Reached out to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to demand physical land allocations for a proposed “Made in Nigeria Product Market” hub.

  • Imo State: Invited Governor Hope Uzodimma as a special guest while concurrently requesting financial contributions to cover logistics, accommodation, and conference expenses.
