Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has announced that all 183 residents abducted from Kurmin Wali in Kajuru Local Government Area have been safely rescued, confirming that no victim remains unaccounted for.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The governor spoke on Friday at the Government House in Kaduna after receiving the freed residents, noting that the successful operation was the result of close collaboration between the state government, the Federal Government and security agencies.

“Today, I can state categorically that everyone abducted from Kurmin Wali has returned. The total number is 183, and we would not be gathered here if even one person was still missing,” Sani said.

He explained that the kidnappers initially seized 183 villagers during an attack on January 18 while residents were in a place of worship. According to him, the release occurred in phases, with 11 victims freed earlier and taken to hospital, 83 released a few days later, and the final group of 89 rescued on Thursday morning.

Reiterating the administration’s stance, the governor stressed that the rescue effort was never politicised. “For us, even one abducted person is unacceptable. That is why we avoided media arguments over figures and focused solely on ensuring that every single victim returned safely,” he said.

Governor Sani expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his direct involvement, describing the president as being in constant communication throughout the rescue operation.

He also revealed that he has requested the establishment of a military base along the Kajuru–Kachia corridor, a known security hotspot, adding that the president has assured him the request would be approved.

The governor disclosed that the state government has commenced development projects in Kurmin Wali, including the construction of an access road, while plans are underway for a hospital and a skills acquisition centre to aid recovery and long-term community support.

He added that the rescued victims will first undergo medical checks and psychosocial support in Kaduna before returning to their homes.

Sani further urged residents to cooperate with security agencies, noting the sacrifices made by security personnel in safeguarding lives and communities.

“These officers put their lives on the line daily to protect us. It is unfair to question their integrity during crises and still depend on them when danger strikes,” he said.

Emphasizing that the current situation is one of national distress, Governor Makinde cautioned against trading blame or criticizing leadership at the state or federal levels. He shared a personal reflection on the matter, noting:

  • He is personally distressed by the incident.

  • His late father was a primary school teacher who taught at Awole Dada, a location less than 15 kilometers from where the kidnapping occurred.

  • He noted that if such an event had occurred during his father’s time there in 1959 and 1960, his own life might not have been possible.

The Governor maintained that tackling insecurity requires a collective response rather than political finger-pointing regarding the responsibilities of the President, the Governor, or local government officials.
