Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has called for unity among Nigerians, urging them to avoid politicizing the recent abduction of students and teachers in the state’s Oriire Local Government Area. Emphasizing that the current situation is one of national distress, Governor Makinde cautioned against trading blame or criticizing leadership at the state or federal levels. He shared a personal reflection on the matter, noting:

  • He is personally distressed by the incident.

  • His late father was a primary school teacher who taught at Awole Dada, a location less than 15 kilometers from where the kidnapping occurred.

  • He noted that if such an event had occurred during his father’s time there in 1959 and 1960, his own life might not have been possible.

The Governor maintained that tackling insecurity requires a collective response rather than political finger-pointing regarding the responsibilities of the President, the Governor, or local government officials.
