Southern Kaduna Leaders Reject Defence Minister As Tinubu’s VP Pick.

A coalition of socio‑cultural and professional groups from Southern Kaduna has clarified that the region does not endorse recent calls for retired General Christopher Gwabin Musa to be considered as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s running mate for the 2027 elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The statement comes after Samuel Tabara Kato, president of the Southern Kaduna United People’s Association (SOKAPU), praised Tinubu for appointing General Musa as Defence Minister and suggested regional support for him as vice president.

Representatives of the coalition—including Dr. Simon Majimre of the Southern Kaduna Community Development Associations, Edward John Auta of Southern Kaduna Patriots for Good Governance, and leaders of the Southern Kaduna Professionals Forum and SOKAPU Youths—clarified that Tabara’s remarks reflect only his personal opinion. They stressed that no wider consultation with regional stakeholders preceded the suggestion.

“The timing of this call is concerning,” one representative said, noting that Southern Kaduna is still reeling from the recent abduction of over 170 people in Kurmin Wali.

The coalition added that no responsible leadership should prioritize discussions about a presidential running mate while families and communities continue to face trauma and insecurity.

While acknowledging General Musa as a competent and respected Army officer, the group emphasized that his immediate duty remains securing the nation, working alongside the President and Vice President.

“Southern Kaduna stands united in supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and Governor Uba Sani, and we reject the unwarranted statement made by Mr. Tabara,” the coalition said in a statement.

The coalition also commended Governor Uba Sani for his prompt response to the Kurmin Wali crisis, including reinforcing security personnel and mobilizing workers and equipment to construct a road that improved access for security agencies. They noted that these efforts allowed the community to resume Sunday worship just a week after the abduction, a positive outcome amid the crisis.

The group urged Nigerians to reject divisive narratives that could distract the Defence Minister or undermine national unity.
