APC Denies Issuing Membership Card Featuring Notorious Bandit Bello Turji.
The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has sounded the alarm over the circulation of a fake membership card allegedly bearing the image of notorious bandit leader Bello Turji, calling it a deliberate attempt to tarnish the party’s reputation.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement on Monday in Gusau, the APC Publicity Secretary in Zamfara, Malam Yusuf Idris, said the card is clearly forged and linked the act to mischief-makers unhappy with the smooth rollout of the party’s ongoing electronic membership registration.
Idris explained that the forgery is easily identifiable, even to ordinary citizens.
“This was done by individuals who are dissatisfied with the successful and well-coordinated e-registration process in the state. The fake card is obviously flawed; even a layperson can spot the errors, including the bold ‘26’ on the date, supposedly January 26,” he said.
He added that the photo of Turji used on the card is well-known to both security agencies and the public.
“Turji does not have a National Identification Number (NIN) and therefore could not have been registered in the APC database. Registration requires a valid NIN, and no one can be enrolled without it. How then could NIMC capture him in a military uniform carrying a gun?” Idris questioned.
He also noted that the registration ID code ‘26’ on the card corresponds to Niger State, while Zamfara uses ‘36,’ further proving the card is fake.
Preliminary investigations, according to Idris, suggest the fake card may be linked to Babangida Aliyu Shinkafi (Waziri), a known associate of Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi and a recently suspended APC member. “The forgery first appeared on his Facebook page,” he claimed.
The APC has reported the incident to security authorities and expressed confidence that the culprits will be arrested and prosecuted. The party urged the public to ignore the fraudulent membership card with registration ID: APC 261113000102, reaffirming its commitment to a transparent and credible e-registration process.
“We call on well-meaning citizens to disregard the card while investigations continue,” Idris concluded.
