By Monday morning, APC flags had been hoisted at the main gates and across the Government House premises, signalling the governor’s imminent political shift.
According to TVC News, the Government House is on high alert ahead of Yusuf’s formal defection, which is expected to be announced publicly this afternoon following the flag-off of the APC’s e-registration exercise in the state.
Prior to the announcement, Yusuf reportedly held a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, intensifying speculation about his move—a topic that had been circulating for weeks.
Earlier unconfirmed reports suggested that his defection was initially delayed due to disagreements, including alleged demands for an automatic second-term ticket.
In a statement released on Sunday, signed by the Governor’s Director-General of Media and Publicity, Sanusi Bature, Yusuf confirmed his plan to join the APC. This came after his formal resignation from the NNPP last Friday.
The statement noted that Yusuf is no stranger to the APC, having first joined the party in 2014 after winning its primary for the Kano Central Senatorial seat. He later stepped aside for Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who contested under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the time.
