The President made the call on Monday at the 4th International Conference of the Centre for Islamic Civilisation and Interfaith Dialogue, held at Bayero University, Kano. He was represented by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.

Commending the Centre and the Sultan Bello Mosque, Kaduna, for promoting interfaith dialogue, President Tinubu highlighted the enduring legacy of the late Sheikh Mahmud Abubakar Gummi. He described the renowned Islamic scholar as a teacher, reformer, advisor, and writer whose efforts strengthened national unity during critical periods, including post-independence and the civil war.

“Sheikh Gummi understood the intersection of faith and politics, mentoring generations to believe in Nigeria’s indivisibility and the value of work and worship,” the President stated.

Addressing contemporary national challenges, Tinubu called on Nigerians to reject narratives portraying the country as intolerant to religion. “Our national security is tied to unity and respect for religious diversity. We must resist attempts to divide us,” he said.

The President also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property and combating criminality. He disclosed that over 7,000 trained forest guards have been deployed nationwide, while community policing initiatives are being strengthened in line with constitutional provisions.

Following the declaration of a national security emergency in November 2025, Tinubu noted that intelligence-led operations have been intensified to disrupt terrorist and criminal networks. He also highlighted Nigeria’s security partnership with the United States, emphasizing that it is strategically focused on counterterrorism and civilian protection while preserving national sovereignty.

Concluding his remarks, the President urged Nigerians to uphold shared values and peaceful coexistence, calling unity the foundation for lasting peace.

The event was attended by prominent Islamic scholars, including Sheikh Abdullahi Bala Lau, Professor Shehu Ahmad Galadanci, Sheikh Ahmad Mahmud Gummi, General Abdulkadir Mahmud Gummi (rtd), and academics like Professor Haruna Musa, Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano.

Netherlands midfielder Tijjani Reijnders has finalized a £52 million transfer from Manchester City to Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Having arrived from AC Milan for £46.5 million last summer, the 28-year-old spent one season at the Etihad Stadium, making 50 appearances across all competitions and scoring seven goals as City captured both the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup during Pep Guardiola’s final campaign in charge.

Reijnders has signed a reported five-year contract with Al-Qadsiah, where he will play under former Liverpool and Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers. His exit had been widely anticipated after new manager Enzo Maresca omitted him from the squad for Sunday’s 3-0 Community Shield defeat against Arsenal.

Reflecting on his departure, Reijnders expressed gratitude to the club and its fans:

“I have been incredibly privileged to play for Manchester City, and I have relished every minute of my time here. From the very moment I arrived, everyone at the club, players, coaches and staff, made me feel so welcome and a part of the Manchester City family. I would also like to say a special thank you to the City fans who were so warm and supportive both to me and my family.”

Reijnders’ departure is part of a major midfield overhaul under Maresca. Rodri has joined Barcelona for £65 million, and Bernardo Silva moved to Real Madrid on a free transfer after his contract expired. Meanwhile, City could see further midfield movement with Newcastle United tracking Nico Gonzalez, while the club remains locked in advanced talks with Lille for Morocco international Ayyoub Bouaddi alongside continued interest in Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez.
