Ganduje’s arrival comes amid intensified political activity in the state as the APC prepares to officially welcome the Kano governor following his decision to defect.

Naija News reports that the former Kano State governor returned to Nigeria from London, where he attended the graduation ceremony of his daughter, Fatima Ganduje, at King’s College London.

Fatima, who is married to Idris Ajimobi, son of the late former Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, earned a Master’s degree from the institution on Thursday.

Ganduje arrived in Abuja aboard a British Airways flight at about 5:30 am on Monday and is expected to proceed to Kano later in the day for a series of key political engagements.

According to a statement issued by his Chief of Staff, Comrade Muhammad Garba, Ganduje will take part in the APC’s ongoing electronic registration of members, a process he initiated during his tenure as national chairman.

The statement added that the former party leader will also be actively involved in events surrounding the planned reception of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf into the APC.

The formal declaration of Yusuf’s membership is expected to attract party leaders and supporters from across Kano State and beyond.

The event is seen as part of the APC’s broader strategy to strengthen its party structure in Kano and consolidate recent political realignments ahead of future elections.

Upon taking office, the current administration discontinued the fuel subsidy and floated the national currency to address structural economic imbalances. While these sweeping policy changes triggered widespread financial pressures and heightened the cost of living for average citizens, the government maintains that the reforms were essential for long-term fiscal stability.

Addressing critics from the Presidential Villa, President Tinubu defended the decision by highlighting its immediate impact on sub-national finances. He pointed out that prior to the intervention, numerous state governments struggled to meet monthly obligations to workers and retirees. According to the administration, the savings generated from ending the subsidy have since enabled states to consistently service salary arrears and pension commitments, framing the policy shift as a vital corrective measure for the nation’s broader financial framework.
