Breaking: Turaki Reacts As Court Rules Against Anyanwu In PDP Dispute.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has hailed the Federal High Court’s dismissal of a suit filed by former factional National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu as a validation of its leadership and internal governance.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking with journalists on Tuesday evening in Abuja after a high-level meeting between PDP leaders and former Vice President Namadi Sambo, PDP National Chairman Tanimu Turaki (SAN) said the court’s judgment reaffirmed the principle that courts should not interfere in matters that are strictly internal party affairs.
The ruling came after the Federal High Court, Abuja, struck out Anyanwu’s suit seeking judicial recognition as the party’s substantive national secretary. Justice Mohammed Umar held that Anyanwu’s tenure as PDP national secretary had expired in December 2025, rendering the case overtaken by events.
Anyanwu had filed the suit (FHC/ABJ/CS/254/2025) naming the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and former acting National Chairman of the PDP, Umar Damagun, as first and second defendants.
Reacting to the ruling, Turaki said it reinforced the party’s longstanding position that internal leadership disputes should be resolved within the party, not in court.
“It is a vindication for us in the PDP family. We’ve repeatedly said that the decision of the Supreme Court is sacrosanct, and that our courts should not meddle in matters that are purely political party issues,” he said.
Turaki also criticised recent judicial interventions, which he argued encroached on party affairs and could undermine public confidence in the judiciary.
“That is why, when some judges issue rulings on matters they ordinarily should not, giving judgments that defy rational explanation, it risks tarnishing the image of the judiciary as an impartial institution, the last hope of the common man,” he said.
He further stressed that the ruling confirmed the legitimacy of the current PDP leadership and its convention.
“The judgment of Justice Umar today has vindicated us in the PDP: yes, we are the genuine leaders of the party, and yes, our convention was conducted legitimately,” Turaki said.
He added, “It has affirmed that individuals cannot just carve out a corner and claim leadership of a political party. This is not a market association or an association of shoe-shiners. This is a political party, and discipline must prevail.”
