APC Sounds Alarm: Wike–Fubara Spat Affects Rivers Leadership.

Published

on

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has stated that the prolonged political clash between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and his protégé, Siminalayi Fubara, has severely disrupted governance, development, and economic stability in Rivers State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Eze made the remarks while responding to questions from Daily Post on the impact of the ongoing crisis on the people and development of the state.

According to the APC leader, the conflict was orchestrated by Wike under what he described as a false pretense of acting in the public interest.

“The unwarranted power struggle in Rivers State, instigated by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike under the guise of public service, has significantly hindered effective governance,” Eze said.

He noted that the state’s administration was progressing steadily until President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency, which he said brought government operations to a halt.

“Before the declaration of emergency rule, governance and administration in the state were moving steadily. However, the machinery of government stalled completely following the Governor’s removal,” he added.

Eze highlighted the suspension of major infrastructure projects as an immediate consequence of the crisis.

“The Ring Road project, a multi-billion-naira initiative connecting several local government areas, was abandoned for the duration of the emergency rule,” he said.

He further explained that project timelines were disrupted, potentially leading to cost overruns in the billions of naira, and that several other ongoing projects were affected. He also claimed that the state’s economy suffered.

“The state’s economy was stifled. Investors were scared off, jobs were lost, revenue declined, and the government struggled to pay salaries, while billions were allegedly diverted into private accounts,” Eze asserted.

The APC chieftain accused Wike of deliberately undermining Rivers State’s progress for personal political control.

“Wike’s actions to derail Rivers State’s progress are deeply damaging to his own state,” he said.

He also alleged that Wike sabotaged projects initiated by his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi, across sectors including agriculture, education, and security.

“Wike turned Rivers State into a war zone to manipulate the 2023 elections and consolidate his position as the strongman of state politics,” he claimed.

Eze added that Wike’s desire to control state affairs led to a breakdown of peace after Fubara assumed office.

“He nominated Fubara as Governor, the people voted, and since then, peace has been elusive because Wike wanted absolute control. He treated the Governor as if he were a mere figurehead, subject to orders,” he said.

He further alleged that Wike sought to weaken Fubara politically ahead of a potential second term.

“He aimed to ensure the Governor could not succeed on merit, forcing him to rely on manipulated electoral outcomes, thereby keeping him under Wike’s influence,” Eze said.

Despite the challenges, Eze commended Governor Fubara for his foresight, noting that the governor continues to struggle to restore stability in governance.

“The sabotage was massive, and the distractions continue unnecessarily,” he said.

Eze warned that the impact of the crisis would be long-lasting. “The effects on governance are significant, and the state will face a lengthy recovery process,” he added.

He concluded by praying for divine guidance for the governor. “I pray God grants the Governor wisdom to navigate these challenges so Rivers State can recover quickly,” he said.

The State Wing Executive Council of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has ordered all public primary and secondary school teachers in Abuja to commence an indefinite strike from Monday.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The union also directed parents and guardians to keep their children at home until further notice, citing unresolved welfare concerns and what it described as government inaction.

This followed a communiqué issued after an emergency SWEC meeting held in Gwagwalada, Abuja, over the weekend and signed by the state leadership of the union.

Teachers were instructed to fully comply with the strike directive and await further instructions from the union leadership, as the industrial action remains in force until their demands are addressed.

According to the communiqué, the strike became necessary after the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum earlier issued to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, which elapsed without a satisfactory response.

The union recalled that although previous interventions led to the suspension of an earlier strike, several key issues affecting teachers’ welfare were still unresolved.

It also expressed concern that a committee set up to address outstanding entitlements submitted its report in August 2025, but the findings have not been made public or implemented.

While acknowledging the payment of the new minimum wage and some salary arrears, the union insisted that major concerns remain unattended.

The NUT further demanded reforms in promotion processes and a review of the 2024 promotion exercise.

After what it described as unsuccessful engagements and expired deadlines, the union declared that all teachers in the FCT will remain on strike indefinitely until their demands are met.
