APC: Fubara Faces Impeachment Retaliation Over Rejection Of Fake 2026 Projects.
According to Nivo News, the All Progressives Congress (APC) South-South Group has accused lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, of targeting Governor Siminalayi Fubara with impeachment threats. The group claims the action is retaliatory, following the governor’s refusal to approve fictitious projects in the state’s proposed 2026 budget.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The allegation was made on Friday in Port Harcourt, as the APC South-South responded to claims that Fubara violated the peace agreement brokered by President Bola Tinubu to resolve Rivers State’s prolonged political crisis. Freedom Amadi, coordinator of the APC South-South Group, argued that the impeachment move was not a constitutional matter but a calculated effort to punish the governor for exercising fiscal restraint.
Amadi stressed that Fubara had not acted in bad faith or breached the presidential peace accord. Instead, the APC South-South accused the lawmakers of institutional insubordination, stating that the peace agreement aimed to restore stability and allow governance to proceed without coercion, not to subjugate the governor to partisan interests.
He said, “Governor Fubara did not breach the President’s peace accord; rather, he refused to add fictitious projects to the Rivers State budget, and that refusal is now being weaponised against him. Impeachment is a grave constitutional mechanism, not a political cudgel.”
The group further contended that the impeachment effort was orchestrated by Wike’s loyalists, raising questions about the minister’s allegiance to the federal government, which he serves. The APC South-South warned that using impeachment to settle political scores threatens democratic institutions, undermines legislative credibility, and erodes public confidence.
Amadi urged the Rivers State House of Assembly to halt all impeachment proceedings and called on the National Assembly to intervene, warning that unchecked legislative impunity in one state could destabilise democratic order across Nigeria.
