The Nigerian squad arrived in the Moroccan city on Thursday, ahead of the showdown with the Desert Foxes, a match that carries historical significance and a chance for Nigeria to pursue a fourth continental title. Lookman, who has been pivotal for the team this tournament, has contributed three goals and four assists so far, earning two Man of the Match awards. Across two AFCON tournaments, his record now stands at six goals and five assists.

Speaking to CAFOnline, Lookman emphasised the team’s focus and determination despite recent off-field distractions. “The quarter-finals of the AFCON are something to look forward to. Another big battle awaits us, so we need to be ready. Everyone is physically strong. It’s about meeting them on the field, being intelligent, and being ready. Same mentality from the team. Same mentality to win, to be aggressive on the ball,” he said.

Nigeria’s attacking approach has been one of the defining features of the tournament, with Lookman linking effectively with Akor Adams and Victor Osimhen, keeping opposing defences under constant pressure. A minor on-field exchange between Lookman and Osimhen in a previous match was described by the winger as routine discussion, dismissing any notion of discord.

The upcoming fixture also recalls Nigeria’s 2019 AFCON semi-final defeat to Algeria, when a late Riyad Mahrez free kick sealed a 2-1 loss for the Super Eagles, allowing the Desert Foxes to claim their second continental title. Since then, Algeria has struggled to make an impact in subsequent tournaments, exiting at the group stage in both 2021 and 2023, while Nigeria reached the final of the last edition in Ivory Coast.
