Rivers Tension Deepens As Fubara Yet To Present 2026 Budget.
Concerns have been raised over the absence of an approved budget for Rivers State in the 2026 fiscal year, as former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Caretaker Committee in the state, Robinson Ewor, disclosed that Governor Siminalayi Fubara is yet to present the proposed budget to the State House of Assembly.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to Nivo News, Ewor made the observation while speaking during a “thank you” visit by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to Ahoada East Local Government Area on Wednesday. He warned that any expenditure carried out without legislative approval would amount to a violation of the law.
Ewor stressed that effective governance depends on cooperation among the executive, legislative, and judicial arms of government, noting that the absence of synergy could hinder the delivery of democratic dividends to the people of Rivers State. He maintained that the governor could not successfully administer the state without presenting the budget for appropriation by the lawmakers.
Although the Rivers State Executive Council had earlier approved a ₦1.85 trillion budget for the 2026 fiscal year on January 2, 2026, the proposal has yet to be transmitted to the State Assembly, raising questions about the legality of government spending in the interim.
During the visit, the Chairman of Ahoada East Local Government Council, Solomon Ochoma, commended Wike for his continued engagement at the grassroots level, describing the visit as a demonstration of decisive leadership and institutional strength. He said the minister’s presence had reinforced unity and renewed commitment to development within the local government area.
Also speaking, the lawmaker representing Ahoada East I constituency, Queen William, expressed appreciation to Wike for his sustained efforts in promoting women’s empowerment during his time as governor, assuring him of the continued support of women in the area.
In his remarks, Wike explained that the visit was aimed at thanking the people for their support during the 2023 presidential election and mobilising them ahead of the 2027 polls. He highlighted several infrastructure projects executed during his tenure, including major road constructions that linked communities across the state, and claimed that over 10,000 jobs were created through development initiatives.
However, Wike accused the current administration of abandoning many of those projects, alleging that programmes designed to empower youths had been discontinued. He openly criticised Governor Fubara, describing him as ungrateful for neglecting inherited projects, and urged residents to continue supporting what he described as progressive leadership for the sustained development of Rivers State.
