2027: Pressure Mounts On Tinubu To Bring El-Rufai Back Into APC.

Published

on

According to Nivo News, a former All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Kebbi State, Mallam Salihu Isa Nataro, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to facilitate the return of former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, to the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Nataro said the current political realignments in Northern Nigeria make it imperative for the President to strengthen ties within the North-West geopolitical zone, particularly in the wake of the removal of Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje as APC national chairman, a development he said has diminished the zone’s influence within the party.

He cautioned that rising talks of a potential political coalition involving former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, under the African Democratic Congress could pose a serious challenge to Tinubu’s support base if not properly managed.

According to Nataro, even the defection of incumbent Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, to the APC would not sufficiently consolidate the North-West without a widely accepted political figure capable of mobilising large-scale grassroots support for the President.

He attributed the strained relationship between el-Rufai and the Tinubu camp to envy and the activities of political opponents, describing the former Kaduna governor as a key political asset whose influence in the region remains significant.

While faulting el-Rufai’s reliance on foreign loans to fund urban renewal projects in Kaduna State—arguing that such resources could have been better channelled into education, agriculture or cottage industries—Nataro maintained that the former governor’s overall public service record remains commendable. He cited el-Rufai’s tenure as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory under former President Olusegun Obasanjo as evidence of his administrative capacity.

“There is substantial political groundwork to be done in the North-West to effectively project President Tinubu,” Nataro said, adding that el-Rufai is well-positioned to play a central role in that effort.

He concluded that reintegrating el-Rufai into Tinubu’s political camp would significantly enhance the President’s electoral prospects in the North-West, given the former governor’s reach and influence across the region.

However, President Tinubu cautioned that these opportunities to surrender are temporary.

Finally, the President called for national unity, explicitly stating that “crime has no ethnicity” and urging citizens to avoid assigning blame to specific ethnic groups for criminal acts.
