“Nurses Cry Out As Abuja Colleague Is Brutally Killed, Demand Justice”.
The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives has condemned the killing of one of its members, Nurse Chinemerem Pascalina Chuwumeziem, describing the incident as a brutal assault on the nursing profession and healthcare workers nationwide. According to Nivo News, the association said the tragedy has further heightened fears over the safety of nurses, particularly while commuting to and from their workplaces.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the association expressed deep sorrow and outrage over the death of the nurse, who was in active service at the Federal Medical Centre, Abuja, before she was allegedly murdered under unclear circumstances. The killing was described as wicked, senseless, and deeply troubling, with the association warning that such acts threaten not only healthcare professionals but humanity as a whole.
The association disclosed that the deceased reportedly completed her afternoon duty on January 3, 2026, and boarded a vehicle on her way home. Tragically, she did not return alive. Her lifeless body was later discovered dumped in a manner described as inhumane and heartbreaking.
The nurses’ body called on security agencies in the Federal Capital Territory, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, to immediately carry out a thorough, transparent, and professional investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice without delay.
The association also lamented the increasing cases of harassment, attacks, and insecurity faced by nurses, especially during early morning and late-night shifts. It noted that healthcare workers now leave their homes daily to save lives with no guarantee of returning safely to their families.
In its appeal, the association urged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory to strengthen security around hospitals, major transit points, and areas frequently used by healthcare workers. It also called for the consideration of organised transportation for nurses where feasible to reduce exposure to danger.
Condolences were extended to the family of the deceased, the management of the Federal Medical Centre, Jabi, Abuja, and nurses across the country, with the association describing the loss as painful and irreparable. It further demanded urgent government intervention to safeguard the lives of nurses and healthcare workers in the FCT, warning that failure to act decisively could worsen insecurity and erode public confidence in the nation’s safety framework.
