“I Was On Holiday During Mozambique Match — Nwabali After Super Eagles’ 4–0 Win”.
Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has revealed that he was effectively on holiday during Nigeria’s emphatic 4–0 victory over Mozambique at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, describing the match as a relaxed outing in which he finally got to enjoy his December celebrations. Nigeria cruised past Mozambique on Monday night with a dominant display, as Nwabali praised the collective effort of the team, attributing the shutout to strong organisation, discipline, and unity rather than individual brilliance.
Reflecting on his performance, the goalkeeper downplayed his role in the win, noting that the defence limited Mozambique’s attacking threat throughout the encounter. He said he was simply pleased with the result and eager to rest after what he described as a straightforward night between the posts.
Nwabali’s performance continues to build on his impressive pedigree at the Africa Cup of Nations. During the 2023 edition in Côte d’Ivoire, he set a historic benchmark by going 493 minutes without conceding a goal across six matches, the longest streak by a Super Eagles goalkeeper in the competition’s history. The feat surpassed the previous record held by former Nigeria goalkeeper Ike Shorunmu.
Speaking after the match, Nwabali highlighted the team’s growth, cohesion, and discipline, stressing that the clean sheet was a product of collective responsibility. He added that he was enjoying the tournament atmosphere, describing the experience as a belated holiday after missing out on December celebrations in the past.
With Nigeria set to face Algeria in the quarter-finals in Marrakesh on Saturday, the goalkeeper cautioned that the team must remain focused, disciplined, and united as they push for further success in the tournament.
