Pela is expected to officially announce his defection on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, a development that political observers are already describing as a potential game-changer for the ADC in Delta State. The move comes less than two years to the 2027 general elections and is seen as a signal of an emerging political realignment within the state.

A statement released by Pela’s media team disclosed that the defection ceremony will attract key national leaders of the African Democratic Congress, as well as prominent political figures from the South-South region. The team noted that the decision underscores rising confidence in the ADC as a credible, people-oriented alternative to Nigeria’s dominant political parties.

According to the statement, Pela’s choice to join the ADC was guided by shared principles, including values-driven leadership, internal democracy, accountability and transparent governance, which the party is said to champion.

Political analysts believe the former governorship candidate’s entry into the ADC will significantly strengthen the party’s grassroots network and improve its electoral prospects in Delta State ahead of the 2027 polls.
