Why Did Tinubu Lose In Your Area? Abia Govt Questions Orji Kalu’s Loyalty.

Published

on

According to Nivo News, the Abia State Government has questioned the loyalty of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following the outcome of the 2023 general elections, in which the lawmaker retained his senatorial seat while the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) lost in his constituency.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The state government’s reaction followed Kalu’s recent assertion that the APC would reclaim Abia State in the 2027 general elections and dislodge Governor Alex Otti from office. The senator, who represents Abia North Senatorial District, had vowed to mobilise support for the APC ahead of the polls, stating that although Governor Otti is his personal friend, his loyalty remains with his party.

Responding through a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, the Abia State Government challenged Kalu to demonstrate his electoral influence, noting that the APC recorded heavy defeats in his constituency during both the presidential and governorship elections in 2023.

The statement stressed that Governor Otti neither sought Kalu’s political support nor requested him to work against his party, describing the senator’s repeated emphasis on refusing to back the governor as unnecessary and misplaced. It added that any attempt to issue veiled threats against the governor would be counterproductive, insisting that such rhetoric would only strengthen Otti’s resolve.

Questioning Kalu’s claim that he actively worked for President Tinubu in the last election, the government challenged him to publish his polling unit and ward-level results, asking how the APC presidential candidate could lose in his constituency while he emerged victorious on the same ballot.

The Otti administration maintained that the governor’s victory in 2023 was driven by his credibility, competence and campaign promises, making him the only Labour Party governor elected nationwide. It expressed confidence that residents, having witnessed what it described as sustained transformation under Otti’s leadership, would overwhelmingly support his re-election bid in 2027.

The statement also referenced the political ambition of Kalu’s younger brother, Mascot Kalu, who contested the 2023 governorship election under the Action Peoples Party and finished last. It noted that Mascot Kalu secured 11,728 votes, representing just 3.3 per cent of the total votes cast.

Additionally, the government disclosed that several aspirants had already indicated interest in contesting the Abia North senatorial seat on the platform of the Labour Party, assuring that whoever emerges would receive the full backing of Governor Otti.

Governor Otti won the March 18, 2023 governorship election with 175,466 votes, defeating the PDP candidate, Okey Ahiwe, who garnered 88,526 votes.

In an official update shared via its verified social media channel, the NAF stated that this strategic deployment is designed to strengthen aerial surveillance, maintain constant pressure on criminal networks, and improve the operational response time of security forces.
