Orji, who served as the third democratically elected governor of Abia State and later represented Abia Central Senatorial District in the Senate between 2015 and 2023, had earlier announced his withdrawal from active politics. However, he had not formally resigned from the PDP until now.
The development follows a similar move by his son, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, a former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, who defected to the APC earlier amid internal turmoil within the PDP in the state.
Although Theodore Orji has largely stayed away from the political spotlight since leaving the Senate, his latest decision confirms widespread expectations that he would eventually align with the ruling party.

Outcome: Following the engagement, soldiers conducted clearance operations for 10 kilometres along the insurgents’ withdrawal route to ensure the highway was safe for transit.

Safety: The rescued civilians and their vehicles were safely escorted to Buratai to continue their journeys, with military sources reporting no casualties or equipment losses during the operation.
According to military reports, this success highlights the ongoing commitment of Operation HADIN KAI to protect major highways and curb terrorist movement in the North-East. While the regional security situation remains calm, troops continue to maintain a high state of alert against unpredictable insurgent threats.
