According to Nivo News, the National Leader of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, has disclosed that former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) with the clear objective of contesting and securing the party’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Tanko expressed confidence that Obi’s decision would energise political support across the country, describing the former Anambra State governor as one of Nigeria’s most popular political figures. He maintained that Obi’s appeal cuts across party lines and is unaffected by recent defections of some South-East governors to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He stated that Obi’s popularity has continued to grow since the 2023 election and insisted that political officeholders do not determine election outcomes. According to him, it is the masses who decide, adding that Nigerians are increasingly determined to assert their will at the polls.
Tanko further noted that citizens are yearning for genuine change capable of delivering effective leadership, arguing that Obi embodies that aspiration. He stressed that governors lack the capacity to dictate voting behaviour in the current political climate, insisting that electoral victories are driven by popular support.
He concluded by reaffirming that Obi’s recent defection to the ADC is part of a broader effort to unite opposition forces under a national coalition in preparation for the 2027 presidential election.
