Speaking on behalf of the State Elders and Leaders Council, the pioneer spokesperson of the Pan Niger Delta Forum, Chief Anabs Sara-Igbe, accused Wike of stoking political tension and working to obstruct Fubara’s chances of securing a second term. He stressed that regardless of party alignments or internal political maneuvering, it is ultimately the electorate that determines who governs Rivers State.
Sara-Igbe further advised Wike to draw lessons from past political actors who lost relevance after overreaching their authority, warning that political power is transient and that public sentiment can swiftly turn against those who misuse influence.
Also addressing the matter, elder statesman Chief Asukewe Iko-Awaji dismissed Wike’s claims that Governor Fubara’s political standing could be curtailed by party dynamics. He maintained that only divine authority, not political figures, can determine Fubara’s fate, describing Wike’s assertions as baseless.
Iko-Awaji attributed the ongoing political crisis to governance setbacks in Rivers State, lamenting the loss of several months of effective administration. He condemned Wike’s role in the turmoil and warned that Rivers people would resist any attempt to impose a preferred candidate on them, insisting that the electorate would ultimately reject such moves.
