According to party sources, the clarification comes in response to reports attributed to the group’s National Coordinator, Yunusa Tanko, suggesting that the movement would remain aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) even if Obi does not secure the party’s presidential ticket. Tanko dismissed these reports as false, calling them “deliberate misrepresentations and malicious propaganda” intended to mislead members and the public.

Tanko emphasized that the movement’s mission remains focused entirely on Obi’s presidential ambition, noting that its nationwide mobilisation, ideals, and energy are dedicated exclusively to his emergence as President of Nigeria. He added that the Obidient Movement reserves the right to align with any political party that upholds Obi’s leadership values and reform agenda.

“Let it be stated clearly and without ambiguity: The Obidient Movement is not mobilised to support Peter Obi as a vice-presidential candidate to anyone. Our support is exclusively for his emergence as President of Nigeria,” the statement read.

While currently backing Obi’s presidential campaign within the ADC, the movement stressed that its continued participation depends on the transparency and integrity of the party’s primary process. Tanko warned that if the process is compromised, the movement would take lawful and democratic steps in line with its principles.

The clarification appears aimed at quelling speculation over possible political arrangements ahead of the 2027 general elections and reaffirming the movement’s steadfast loyalty to Peter Obi’s presidential bid.
