Renowned Nigerian human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) has criticised former U.S. President Donald Trump, accusing him of engaging in reckless and unlawful actions during his second term that he described as “global gangsterism,” including military interventions carried out without congressional approval.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to Falana, Trump’s conduct not only violated the U.S. Constitution but also undermined international law and the established global order. He cited the alleged bombing of Iran earlier in Trump’s second term as an example, describing it as both unconstitutional and dangerous, and marking a pattern of bypassing legal frameworks in pursuing foreign military actions.

Falana further referenced Trump’s alleged threats against Nigeria in November 2025, when he reportedly threatened military action over what he described as a Christian genocide, and the December 25 airstrikes against Islamic State-linked militants in north-west Nigeria—operations again allegedly conducted without the approval of Congress.

The condemnation intensified following Trump’s alleged military intervention in Caracas, Venezuela, which reportedly resulted in the overthrow of President Nicolás Maduro and the deaths of numerous civilians. Falana alleged that the U.S. President subsequently announced the capture of Maduro and his wife, charging them in a U.S. court with terrorism and narcotics offenses.

Falana accused Trump of attempting to impose a transition regime in Venezuela to facilitate control over the nation’s oil and gas resources, calling it an effort to turn Venezuela into a “new colony of the United States” and a blatant assault on national sovereignty.

The human rights lawyer called on the U.S. Congress to rise above partisan interests and sanction Trump for what he described as an illegal invasion of Venezuela. He also urged the U.S. judiciary to resist efforts to use domestic courts to undermine Venezuela’s sovereignty and highlighted the global implications of abducting a sitting foreign head of state.

Falana warned that the silence of the international community exposes hypocrisy in the enforcement of global norms and called on the United Nations to act decisively in defense of Venezuela. He stressed that failure to do so would compromise the credibility of the U.N., weaken international law, and set a dangerous global precedent.
