Kwankwaso Rejects APC Offer, Demands Top Ticket Before Considering Defection.
The National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has stated that he would only consider defecting to another political party if offered either the presidential or vice-presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking to NNPP supporters at his residence in Kano, Kwankwaso rejected a recent overture from the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the offer as lacking clarity and tangible benefits for him and his political structure. He emphasized that his decades-long political journey and grassroots mobilisation demand a dignified and substantial arrangement.
“We told them that we agree to go with you, but what will you give me? Appointments? How many? Which one among them will fit me, which I will accept? Which one will also fit the national chairman since the national chairman and his executives are important people with values?” Kwankwaso asked, noting that the APC failed to provide satisfactory answers.
He stressed that his supporters nationwide would only endorse a defection that guarantees him one of the top two positions in the 2027 elections, warning that anything short of that would amount to political humiliation. The former senator reaffirmed the NNPP’s commitment to its ideological framework, Kwankwasiyya, which prioritizes empowering the poor and youth, promoting job creation, education, healthcare, agriculture, and economic development.
Kwankwaso also expressed disappointment over reports that Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf plans to defect to the APC, calling the move a betrayal. He lamented that such a development could undermine years of political effort to reclaim Kano from the APC, stating, “The most painful thing is that after everything we did to rescue Kano from Ganduje and the APC, you have now handed the governorship back to him free of charge.”
He urged NNPP supporters to remain calm and prayerful, discouraging any confrontational response, and encouraged them to persuade others to reconsider any moves that could destabilize the party’s structure. The remarks highlight ongoing political realignments as parties prepare for the 2027 general elections.
