The crisis within the Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has intensified with the appointment of Abdullahi Zubairu Imam Abiya as the Acting State Chairman.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Abiya assumes the position following the removal of former chairman Hashimu Dungurawa, whose ouster reportedly faced resistance at the ward level. The appointment received formal endorsement from the NNPP State Executive Committee during an emergency meeting at the party’s Kano secretariat.

The party’s Assistant Legal Adviser, Barrister Yusuf Mukhtar, stated that Abiya’s emergence as Acting Chairman aligns with the provisions of the NNPP constitution. He added that the State Executive Committee acted in accordance with established party procedures and guidelines.

Sources revealed that the development followed a resolution submitted by the Dawakin Tofa Local Government Executive Committee, which recommended Dungurawa’s removal and expulsion from the party. The resolution originated from the Gargari Ward Executive Committee and was formally forwarded to the state leadership two weeks after the general election.

The ward executives accused Dungurawa of engaging in anti-party activities, prompting the call for his removal. After reviewing the report and recommendations, the State Executive Committee approved the decision, affirming Abiya’s appointment as Acting State Chairman.

Party officials said the move aims to restore internal discipline, strengthen cohesion, and reposition the NNPP for upcoming political contests in Kano State.

Reacting to his appointment, Abiya pledged fairness and unity within the party. He assured members of the party’s loyalty to its national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and Kano State Governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, while promising to consolidate the party’s gains and stabilize its operations in the state.
