The development was confirmed by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo, Mr. Patrick Ebojele, who explained that the payment aligns with the governor’s pro-worker policies and is aimed at easing the financial burden of civil servants, especially during the festive season.

Ebojele noted that Governor Okpebholo introduced the 13th-month salary policy shortly after assuming office in November 2024 and has continued it this year to boost workers’ morale and enhance productivity. He emphasized that prioritizing the welfare of civil servants remains a key component of the administration’s governance strategy.

Civil servants across ministries and agencies welcomed the payment, describing it as timely and morale-boosting. Mrs. Rose Imonikhe, Director of Orientation at the Ministry of Information and Strategy, expressed her surprise and delight upon receiving the salary alert. She noted that the payment would ease financial pressure on workers, particularly in meeting obligations such as school fees and rent renewals, and praised the governor for his people-centered approach.

Egbe Jocy, Director of Administration at the Ministry of Environment and Sustainability, also lauded the initiative, stating that it would strengthen morale and productivity within the civil service. Many workers echoed similar sentiments, acknowledging that the 13th-month salary demonstrates the government’s commitment to supporting its workforce and encouraging dedication to public service.

Since assuming office, Governor Okpebholo has maintained the policy of paying 13th-month salaries, a move widely viewed as reinforcing confidence in the state government and its focus on the welfare of civil servants.
