Deputy National Secretary Adedeji Doherty, representing the National Chairman, criticised some PDP leaders for undermining the party’s constitution and blamed the ongoing crisis on figures including Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Chief Olabode George. He stated that recognised PDP leaders had endorsed the new caretaker committee and called for unity to strengthen the party in Lagos. Doherty also described the November PDP convention as illegitimate and reaffirmed Mohammed as the authentic National Chairman.

The newly inaugurated committee, with Kayode Ogunbiyi as Chairman and Jamiu Awofala as Secretary, is tasked with rebuilding the party and conducting congresses at zonal, ward, local government, state, and South-West levels starting January 9, 2026, to be completed within 60 days. Ogunbiyi emphasised discipline, decorum, and adherence to both party and national constitutions while discouraging thuggery, false social media reports, and internal discord.

Doherty encouraged members who had left the party to return and participate in its revitalisation, noting that rebuilding the PDP in Lagos is a priority over the 2027 presidential race. He also commented on Minister Wike’s support for President Bola Tinubu’s potential second term, framing it as a pragmatic political stance without abandoning the PDP.

Other members of the caretaker committee include Mrs Akinro Bolaji, Mr Ege Allen, Mr Audu Salami, Mr Gani Ogungbayi, Mr Ola Odunwa, Mr Samson Hundeyin, Mrs Adebimpe Mariam, and Mr Solomon Yusuf. Hakeem Olalemi, former PDP Vice Chairman (Lagos Central), described the inauguration as a “new beginning and a rebirth” for the party in Lagos State.
