Three Nigerian Soldiers Arrested After Attack on Police Patrol in Kwara

According to Nivo News, three Nigerian Army personnel have been arrested following an attack on a police patrol team along the Shao–Malete Expressway in Kwara State. The army personnel reportedly disembarked from the motorcycles and attempted to disarm and physically assault the policemen. During the confrontation, Police Constable Abdulganiyu Abdullateef sustained injuries. The patrol team immediately called for reinforcements, but the soldiers fled before backup arrived.

One of the motorcyclists, Saka Suleiman, a resident of Shao, was arrested at the scene. He later identified one of the fleeing soldiers as Saka Jamiu. Following a manhunt, police apprehended the remaining suspects—Atunwa Adekunle, Ishola Awolola, and Saka Jamiu—in the early hours of December 24, 2025. All three are male natives of Shao and members of the Nigerian Army. A dagger knife was recovered during the operation.

Authorities have confirmed that arrangements are being made to transfer the arrested soldiers to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Ilorin for further discreet investigation. Police assured that appropriate action would be taken against the suspects upon the conclusion of the inquiry.
