The commendation comes after a video circulated online showing Adamu Danko, a senior aide to the governor, physically attacking Abdulrahman Sheriff, the councillor representing Shamaki Ward. The incident triggered widespread public outrage.

Acting on the recommendations of an investigative committee, Governor Yahaya terminated the appointments of the aides implicated in the assault. Those dismissed include Adamu Abdullahi Danko (Senior Special Assistant II, Domestic), Garba Mohammed Mai Rago (Senior Special Assistant II, Political), Rabiu Abubakar (Senior Special Assistant II, Social Media), and Ali Kaya (Senior Special Assistant II, Community Relations).

In a statement, GOCIP leader Ibrahim Wala described the governor’s actions as a clear demonstration of leadership and a commitment to upholding the rule of law. The group noted that the decision went beyond disciplining erring aides, highlighting its role in preserving the reputation of Gombe State and curbing impunity.

While commending the governor, GOCIP also cautioned that deeper systemic issues must be addressed to prevent future incidents. The group urged a thorough review of political appointees who may have empowered the dismissed aides for personal influence, emphasizing that leadership requires confronting the root causes of such misconduct.

GOCIP concluded that Governor Yahaya’s decisive action positions him as a leader who prioritizes justice and the welfare of citizens, linking this governance approach to broader qualities needed for national leadership.
