Several worshippers lost their lives on Tuesday when an explosive device detonated inside a mosque at Gamborun Market in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State. Eyewitnesses reported that the explosion tore through sections of the mosque, killing some worshippers instantly and injuring others. Traders and residents fled the area as thick smoke engulfed the scene, while a few rushed to assist victims before emergency responders arrived.

Security personnel quickly cordoned off the vicinity to prevent further harm and to carry out an initial assessment of the situation. Authorities have yet to release an official count of casualties.
