No fewer than 10 persons have been confirmed dead following a devastating road traffic accident along the Jos–Bauchi Road in Plateau State, According to Nivo News.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at about 12:12 a.m., involving four vehicles—two articulated trucks and two Ford Galaxy minibuses.

Eyewitness accounts indicated that the collision was extremely severe, resulting in the immediate death of 10 occupants at the scene, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries. Emergency responders promptly rescued the injured victims and conveyed them to nearby medical facilities for urgent treatment.

Confirming the development, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Plateau State disclosed that all the deceased were adult males. The agency explained that a total of 19 persons were involved in the crash, comprising 17 males and two females.

The injured victims were taken to the General Hospital in Miango, the Jos University Teaching Hospital, and the Plateau State Specialist Hospital for medical attention. Meanwhile, eight corpses were deposited at the morgues of the Plateau State Specialist Hospital and Bingham University Teaching Hospital, while two bodies were reportedly claimed by officials of the National Union of Road Transport Workers for burial.

The rescue operation was jointly carried out by personnel of the FRSC, the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Military, and members of the local community.

Preliminary investigations revealed that excessive speed and reckless driving, which led to loss of control, were the major factors responsible for the crash. Further investigations are still ongoing.

Reacting to the incident, the Sector Commander of the FRSC in Plateau State, Corps Commander Olajide Mogaji, expressed appreciation to individuals who promptly alerted security agencies, enabling swift rescue efforts. He urged motorists to avoid night travel, overspeeding, driving under the influence, and operating vehicles while sick or fatigued, warning that such actions significantly increase the risk of fatal accidents.

The commander also expressed deep concern over the recurring crashes in the state, noting that the incident occurred barely 12 days after eight students of the University of Jos lost their lives in a similar accident. He called on road users to prioritize personal safety and strictly adhere to traffic regulations, while encouraging the public to report emergencies through the FRSC toll-free number 122.

According to Nivo News, the Jos–Bauchi Road crash is the second major fatal accident recorded in Plateau State within the last two weeks, raising renewed concerns over road safety in the region.
