During the visit, the NSA described Rivers State as one of the most peaceful states in the country, attributing the stability to effective leadership and coordination by the state government. He explained that the visit was aimed at reinforcing ongoing peace initiatives in Ogoniland, noting that a new phase of progress and transformation was emerging in the area.

Ribadu stated that President Tinubu specifically directed him to express gratitude to Governor Fubara for his role in maintaining peace and facilitating dialogue, particularly concerning discussions on the possible resumption of oil exploration activities in Ogoni. He added that the President believes Nigeria’s overall development would be strengthened by progress and reconciliation in the region.

The NSA also commended the people of Ogoni for their patience, cooperation, and understanding, while praising the Rivers State Government for hosting a campus of the University of Environment and accommodating the South-South Zonal Office of the Office of the National Security Adviser.

Speaking during the visit, Minister of Works David Umahi described the Ogoni peace initiative as vital to Nigeria’s renewed unity, stressing that President Tinubu holds a deep personal commitment to the welfare of communities in the Niger Delta.

Umahi assured that all ongoing sections of the East–West Road within the Niger Delta would be completed to standard. He disclosed that the 15-kilometre Eleme axis of the road in Ogoniland features five flyovers, with one being constructed by the Rivers State Government in support of federal efforts.

He further revealed that, with presidential approval, plans are underway to dualise the Bonny–Bodo Road from its starting point to the East–West Road, including the construction of two flyovers. Additionally, he said the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway is being redesigned to pass through Ogoniland, a move expected to further boost development and connectivity in the region.

    • Government Stance: The Presidency has labeled the PFIPC a “fictitious” organization, with spokesperson Bayo Onanuga describing Adeyemi as a “con artist” who used forged documents to impersonate a government official. Police investigations have reportedly led to an eight-count charge of forgery, impersonation, and fraud filed against Adeyemi and two associates at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

    • Adeyemi’s Allegations: Adeyemi denies all wrongdoing and claims his legal troubles stem from a dispute with the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila. He alleged that the disagreement began after he refused a request from the Chief of Staff for a 48 per cent share of the agency’s ₦27.39 billion take-off grant. He further claimed that ₦400 million was collected by proxy and demanded an independent investigation by President Bola Tinubu.

    • Budgetary Discrepancies: The controversy is compounded by the appearance of the organization in the 2026 Appropriation Bill, which listed an allocation of ₦1.303 billion for the entity.

    • Procedural Details: While the Presidency maintains that the agency does not exist and alleges that Adeyemi attempted to use fraudulent documents to open bank accounts, they noted that no government funds were successfully transferred into those accounts. The case is scheduled to proceed in the Federal High Court in Abuja on July 27.
