FCTA Declares War on ‘One Chance’ Syndicates in Festive Season Security Drive
According to Nivo News, the Federal Capital Territory Administration’s special security task force, Operation Sweep, has intensified security operations across motor parks and other strategic locations in Abuja as part of efforts to guarantee a peaceful Yuletide season.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The operation, carried out on Monday, was aimed at flushing out criminal elements and curbing activities that threaten public safety within the Federal Capital Territory. Speaking to journalists after the exercise, the Director of the Security Services Department of the FCTA, Mr Adamu Gwary, said the initiative was designed to ensure a safe and secure environment for residents and visitors during the festive period.
Represented by the Secretary of the Command and Control Centre, Dr Peter Olumuji, Gwary noted that the ongoing exercise would remain active throughout the holiday season to further strengthen security across the territory. He disclosed that the FCT Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike, had issued clear directives to all security agencies under Operation Sweep to decisively tackle all forms of criminal activity in the capital.
He described the operation as highly successful so far, adding that continuous monitoring of motor parks was helping to sustain the gains already recorded. Gwary revealed that illegal motor parks allegedly used by “one chance” syndicates to abduct unsuspecting passengers were being dismantled, while shanties and other structures harbouring criminal elements were also being destroyed.
He warned that Abuja was no longer a safe haven for criminals, stressing that the territory would be too hostile for miscreants to operate freely. According to him, several arrests have been made, numerous shanties pulled down, and criminal elements disguising themselves as commercial taxi drivers dislodged.
Gwary said the primary objective of the operation was to safeguard lives and property of all residents during the festive season and beyond. He added that security personnel had also been deployed to identified black spots across the city to ensure tight security throughout the holidays.
He further urged operators of motor parks and event centres to be vigilant and ensure that individuals without proper identification, particularly motorists, are not allowed to operate within their facilities.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers at Jabi Motor Park, Abuja, Mr Adamu Abubakar, commended the task force for its efforts, noting that the operation was helping to rid the city of “one chance” operators and sanitize the activities of transport workers in the FCT.
