In a statement on Monday, acting spokesperson Victor Mshelizah announced a total ban on the use, sale, and distribution of firecrackers across the state.
“Under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimeyin, the Command is implementing intensified security measures, including increased patrols, intelligence gathering, and strategic deployments in high-risk areas such as markets, places of worship, and major highways. These actions are designed to prevent criminal activities and ensure a safe and peaceful celebration for all residents,” the statement read.
Mshelizah noted that the directive follows instructions from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, and urged residents to remain vigilant, limit unnecessary night travel, and seek police approval for large gatherings during the festive season.
“The ban on firecrackers, effective immediately, is aimed at preventing fire hazards, noise disturbances, and potential misuse by criminal elements. Violators will face arrest and prosecution, as firecrackers pose a significant threat to public safety,” the Command emphasized.
The Police Command also called for public cooperation to ensure the success of security operations, encouraging citizens to report suspicious activities or threats to the nearest police station.
Reiterating its dedication to a peaceful festive season, the Command appealed to residents, community leaders, and stakeholders to work together in promoting safety and harmony across Taraba State.
