2027: Mutfwang’s APC Defection Will Boost Tinubu’s Re-Election Chances – Dati.
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Yakubu Dati, has said the reported defection of Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, to the ruling party would significantly boost President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s prospects ahead of the 2027 general election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to Nivo News, Dati made the assertion while speaking with journalists over the weekend, noting that Governor Mutfwang’s alignment with the APC would strengthen ties with the federal government and reinforce the leadership direction of President Tinubu.
He explained that such a move would further consolidate political ground for the President and the ruling party as preparations gradually build toward the next election cycle. Dati added that aligning with the centre offers what he described as “political comfort,” which can be leveraged to deepen development efforts, enhance governance capacity, and improve strategic engagement at the national level.
According to him, governors who defect rarely do so in isolation, as such decisions are often accompanied by lawmakers, commissioners, and local government officials. He said this trend works in favour of the ruling party by expanding its influence and strengthening its political base ahead of 2027.
Dati also argued that Governor Mutfwang’s decision to join the APC is critical to accelerating development in Plateau State, stressing that closer alignment with the federal government would open new opportunities for growth and stability.
He further stated that the governor’s move signals a willingness by key political actors to move away from sentiment-driven politics and fully integrate into Nigeria’s political mainstream. According to Dati, the realignment would enhance access to federal resources, fast-track development projects, and improve the state’s influence on national policies.
He added that the shift could also help ease partisan tensions, promote smoother governance, and enable quicker implementation of critical infrastructure and security initiatives across Plateau State.
