Breaking: Edo State Ex-Information Commissioner Charles Idahosa Passes Away.
Tragedy struck the political landscape in Edo State on Saturday, December 20, with the passing of Charles Idahosa, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Commissioner for Information. He died at the age of 72.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Idahosa, who served under the administration of former Governor Lucky Igbinedion, reportedly died suddenly, leaving family, colleagues, and political allies in shock. A source close to the family described his death as unexpected, noting that the late politician appeared healthy just hours before his passing.
“Daddy was full of life this morning. As usual, he came downstairs receiving people. I don’t know what happened; it is shocking,” the source said.
Fondly known as Akakasiaka and Charlie Tempo, Idahosa was recognized for his outspoken nature and candid views on political issues in Edo State and beyond. He was a close ally of former Governor and ex-APC national chairman Adams Oshiomhole, serving as his political adviser throughout Oshiomhole’s eight-year tenure.
During this period, Idahosa was among the most vocal defenders of the administration, frequently engaging critics in both media and political circles. However, he later distanced himself from Oshiomhole following a political rift with Oshiomhole’s successor, Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Idahosa aligned with Obaseki and played a significant role during the crisis that affected the Edo APC. Amid the conflict, he authored The Fall of the Last Godfather, a book widely regarded as a critique of Oshiomhole’s political influence in the state.
In 2020, he defected with Obaseki to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), contributing to the governor’s re-election campaign. However, his alliance with Obaseki was short-lived, as he later fell out with the governor after his re-election and became one of the first prominent politicians to publicly acknowledge the breakdown of their relationship.
Idahosa subsequently returned to the APC, remaining active in party affairs and supporting its candidate in the most recent governorship election. Notably, he was the first to release campaign jingles endorsing Governor Monday Okpebholo, signaling his renewed commitment to the party.
As of the time of reporting, the family has not announced burial arrangements. Tributes are expected from political leaders, colleagues, and admirers who remembered him as a fearless political voice.
He is survived by his children and other family members.
