Jigawa PDP Rejects Lamido’s Suspension, Demands Immediate Reversal

Published

on

According to Nivo News, the Jigawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the suspension of former state governor and party founding father, Alhaji Sule Lamido, by the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT), describing the move as unjust, vindictive, and harmful to party unity.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Dr. Babandi Ibrahim Gumel, the state chairman, expressed in a statement on Saturday that the news of Lamido’s suspension was received with “profound shock and disappointment.” The statement noted that the suspension, reportedly over allegations that Lamido attended meetings perceived as undermining party unity, undermines justice, internal democracy, and the reconciliation efforts recently championed by the PDP leadership.

The Jigawa PDP emphasized that exercising legal and constitutional rights within the party should not be construed as disunity. The statement recalled that Lamido had approached the court after allegedly being denied the opportunity to purchase a nomination form to contest for the position of PDP National Chairman. The Federal High Court in Abuja, led by Justice Peter Lifu, ruled in Lamido’s favor, restraining the party from proceeding with its national convention until his right to contest was determined.

The state chapter argued that the suspension appeared punitive, targeting Lamido for seeking judicial redress on a matter the court had already recognized. It further criticized the BoT for contradicting recent statements by its chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, who had advocated reconciliation and encouraged aggrieved members to return to the party.

The statement described the suspension as premature and prejudicial, highlighting Lamido’s loyalty as one of the few founding fathers who has remained with the PDP without defecting. The party warned that punishing such loyalty could send a negative signal to other committed members.

The Jigawa PDP also noted that the suspension undermines party cohesion at a critical time when unity is essential to effectively challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). It stressed that the PDP constitution does not provide for the suspension of a “life member” and called on the BoT to immediately and unconditionally revoke Lamido’s suspension.

The state chapter further demanded that the BoT publicly affirm the right of all party members to pursue leadership positions in line with the party constitution and national laws, without fear of victimization. It urged the board to realign its actions with its reconciliation agenda and issue an apology to Lamido, reaffirming the PDP’s commitment to being a united, democratic, and law-abiding party.
