According to Nivo News, Obaseki made the remarks in a video shared on , warning that political figures who enrich themselves or their families while in office will face divine punishment. He stressed that holding power is a sacred responsibility meant to serve humanity and glorify God.

Obaseki stated, “If you are in politics to get power, and you get the power and it’s only for you and your friends and the people close to you, then God will punish you. Because if God has given you power, and you cannot use that power directly for Him, glorify Him, then I don’t see how you will do it.”

Reflecting on his tenure, the former governor said he has no regrets about his approach in office and would handle things the same way if given another chance. He noted that his administration focused on long-term reforms, particularly in education, and expressed a wish that some initiatives had started earlier to maximize their impact.

Obaseki also emphasized that his support for a successor was aimed at ensuring policy continuity and protecting the welfare of citizens. He warned that efforts to dismantle programs introduced during his administration would ultimately harm ordinary people rather than former leaders.

“When I see people trying to destroy what we did, I say you add to what you met, not destroy it. You’re not hurting me. You remove health insurance or close hospitals down, am I the one that will get treatment from there? It might even be your brother or sister tomorrow who will need treatment from that hospital you have refused to open,” he said. He questioned how anyone could enjoy power while many citizens are struggling to meet basic needs.
